Yesterday’s News

Will our grandchildren be horrified, or simply not believe us?

There was an entire industry built around yesterday’s news.

It’s true! They would spend all night carefully curating it, formatting it, and building each beautiful page. In the wee hours of the night enormous presses worked furiously to print out thousands of copies, which were loaded onto trucks and sent to various depots around the city. There an army of people would wrap each one in its own plastic bag and drive house to house all around the city, tossing it out on the drive, all before dawn.

We would retrieve it, unwrap it, scan but a few pages, and throw it all out. Only to wait for tomorrow’s edition.

What have you “always done” that would sound just as silly?

Weekly meetings? Annual performance reviews? Going into the downtown office? Hmmm…
